"The foundations for a better tomorrow
must be laid today"

From the desk of...

Even though the Red Oak Heritage Foundation has been around since 1993, few folks are even aware of the organization or any of our many accomplishments. This new website is an attempt to make use of current technology that will give our organization the opportunity to become more transparent and acquaint our community with the projects that are planned, as well as to note those that have already been accomplished. We invite you to surf our website and we welcome your feedback - your comments and suggestions are very much appreciated.

One of the many undertakings of this organization is a current project of building a database of local alumni. The intital phase has been completed, but as you may guess, it is an ongoing project and can only be as good as the information that we receive from the alumni classes. We urge each of you to help us in this mission and invite you to check back often for updates and projects in process.

Since we have been around for a number of years, we have had a number of local businesses and individuals that have made generous donations and contributions. Please take a moment to review this group and to thank them for their financial aid. And of course we welcome your donation/contribution and join our list of annual members, as well as our lifetime members.

Please review "About Us" to find out how we are formally organized. We have a Board of Directors that is made up of non-paid volunteers whose names most of you will recognize since they are all local business and community leaders. You can find out more about our board, along with the brief biography of each board member at our webpage on "Board" in the Foundation section. When given the opportunity, please let them know how much you appreciate their efforts in making our community a better place to live, work and retire - after all, that is their only compensation - "your thanks".

Check back often to our website...we are a "work-in-process" and you will be hearing more about activities and projects that are important to our community.

"There is an old Chinese saying that each generation builds a road for the next. The road has been built for us, and I believe it (is) incumbent upon us, in our generation, to build our road for the next generation."

Foundation's Purpose

The primary goal of the Red Oak Heritage Foundation is to build and grow an endowment which will fund future community projects. The Red Oak Heritage Foundation manages the funds, reviews grant requests, and disperses the funds to charitable community projects or to a donor's specific charitable interest. The following is a list of how funds have dispersed:

  • Community Betterment Projects
  • Recreational Facilities
  • Promotion & Encouragement of the Arts
  • Senior Citizen Support
  • Economic Development
  • Scholarships
  • Donor Designated Funds

The Red Oak Heritage Foundation, from time-to-time, will be spotlighting an individual, a company, or an organization that reflects positively on our community. This month we are focusing on the Montgomery County History Center. This may be the best kept secret in the county! If you have not visited in some time, or perhaps NEVER!, then we urge you to visit them. They are open every day (except Monday) from noon til 4 p.m.

MCHCFriends.com is an outgrowth of a meeting in the fall of 2009 by a small group of local folks that had attended Montgomery County Schools - several of which are now closed. Their concern was the loss of artifacts and materials from those schools simply because there was no place where such items could be housed and displayed. They approached The History Center to request the possibility of being a repository for "Old Schools" memorabilia. Since that meeting, much has been gathered and is currently being displayed in the “Old Schools Hallway”. We invite you to visit The History Center to view the results of this effort. We want to continue to gather and display artifacts from ALL the county schools.

We ask you to donate or loan any items from your home, farm or school that have a historical value to Montgomery County History Center.
